The past two decades have seen a dramatic, and welcome, increase in research establishing the efficacy (or, in some cases, lack of efficacy) of the natural healing therapies and advancing our understanding of their mechanisms of action.
Recent research bears out many of the premises of natural healing. The idea, for instance, that disease results from energy blockage has been corroborated by the researches of Dr. Otto Warburg, two-time Nobel Prize winner in cellular physiology and medicine, and Dr. William Frederick Koch. Energy production on the cellular level, they have found, is the key to health or disease. This energy production is the same as the cell respiration or the oxidation process. The blocking of this process is "the most important cause of malignant, viral, bacterial and allergic diseases," they point out. "Effective prevention and treatment of these diseases depends upon the restoration and maintenance of the normal oxidation process." Dr. Koch also proved that "blocked oxidation in microorganisms causes them to be pathogenic and parasitic, and that when this condition was corrected these organisms become non-pathogenic, non-parasitic and non-virulent." What blocks the oxidation process in the body? Oxygen deficiency and the presence of certain toxic substances. To restore health, the following modalities are used: (1) an oxidation catalyst in conjunction with colonics; (2) organically grown food--food grown without toxic fertilizers and pesticides--eaten mostly raw; and (3) chelated minerals.
A simple illustration of the pleomorphic nature of microorganisms can be found in the bacteria of the human intestine. Healthy intestinal bacteria manufacture many nutrients, including vitamins B and K, and "strongly influence the internal balance of cholesterol and the biliary compounds (digestive juices) made from it." Dr. Miles Robinson goes on to say that "it is important that the intestinal bacteria be properly fed (and not overfed) because a new generation occurs about every four hours, and it is characteristic of all bacteria to develop unsuitable and even virulent strains depending on how they are fed." When the diet contains too much sugar and too little fiber, the intestinal bacteria develop abnormal strains. This can lead to various diseases such as diverticulitis, colon infections, digestive and circulatory problems, diabetes, obesity, appendicitis, and gall bladder infections.

If thought, which is energy, can influence matter, then light, which is another form of energy, can also influence matter. All matter--atoms, molecules, microorganisms--gives off radiant energy, which, under certain conditions, can be made visible. Royal Raymond Rife discovered that microorganisms give off a monochromatic wavelength of invisible ultraviolet light and that by subjecting a particular type of microorganism to a specific short-wave frequency the microorganism disintegrated. Other frequencies would cause the microorganism to illuminate or give off visible light, implying that these frequencies were vitalizing to the microorganism. Dr. Rife found he could save the lives of test animals that had been given lethal doses of pathogenic organisms by subjecting their bodies to the proper wavelength of electrical energy, in this case, the oscillatory rate that would destroy the particular pathogen. Are we moving toward the time when health care programs will include periodic exposure to specific life-enhancing radiation frequencies? We know that certain sounds and certain kinds of music have a therapeutic effect, while other sounds and other kinds of music have a disabling or debilitating effect. We know, for instance, that matter originates from and disappears into energy or force fields. "The world at bottom is a quantum energy world," physicist John Wheeler points out. Yet we still think and act as though biochemical analysis were the final revelation. Most medical doctors and chemists, for example, have insisted that synthetic (man-made) food supplements are the same as "natural" food supplements (derived from food sources and processed in such a way as to retain enzymes and other nutrients) because their chemical formulas are the same. Now we know that not only do the atoms in the molecules of the synthetic product rotate differently from the atoms of the natural one, but the natural product has a more dynamic energy pattern than the synthetic.
Two researchers, Drs. Justa Smith and Ehrenfried Pfeiffer, have demonstrated with a series of chromatograms--photographs that reproduce the energy patterns of an object (somewhat like Kirlian photography)--that natural substances have an energy pattern characterized "by radial lines and fluted edges, while the pattern of the synthetic product is almost entirely concentric and relatively dull looking." Looking at these chromatograms, one begins to feel that natural is indeed beautiful.
The characteristic pattern of the natural substance, for example, orange juice or grape juice, is destroyed by pasteurization and some preservatives. The living pattern is diminished or weakened by freezing and by other preservatives. In other words, as a method of food preservation, freezing is less destructive than heat, and some preservatives are more destructive than others. Even food grown in soil in which the compost had been sterilized showed fewer "live" elements than food grown in compost that was not heat treated. "There is a delicate and admirable balance of components in all the kingdoms of nature, Dr. Smith points out. And this balance is disturbed not only by refining out nutrients but by adding preservatives like BHA and BHT."
What are the "live" elements that give the natural product its characteristic pattern and look of "aliveness"? They are enzymes and, as we learned earlier, they are destroyed by heat above 122œ Fahrenheit.
Over a hundred years ago, Bechamp discovered the difference between natural and synthetic substances. He found that chalk buried in limestone brought about fermentation, whereas chemically "pure" chalk (calcium carbonate) made in his laboratory would not. What was that "something" in the natural chalk, buried for thousands of years in the ground, that did not exist in the chemically pure chalk? It was the microzymas, of course; their secretions--products of metabolism--are the enzymes that cause fermentation.
Fish or sea vegetation cannot live in synthetic "sea water," although it is chemically identical with the real thing; however, when just 1 ounce of real sea water is added to 20 gallons of the synthetic substitute, that "something" the chemists were unable to isolate or analyze changes the water so that fish and sea plants can live in it. Royal Raymond Rife discovered when he looked into his Universal Microscope that cells "are actually composed of smaller cells, themselves made up of even smaller cells, this process continuing with higher and higher magnification in a sixteenstep, stage-by-stage journey into the micro-beyond." Bechamp stressed the almost invisible size as well as the "immeasurableness" of microzymas. Are they the elemental living principle?
Generally, doctors using natural methods of healing have long advocated the use of natural substances in preference to their synthetic counterparts, saying, in effect, that because these substances are biologically active, they are more effectively utilized by the body.
