On 26 February 1993, Islamic terrorists exploded a car bomb in the parking garage of the North Tower (Tower 1) of the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York City in an unsuccessful effort to make the building collapse into the South Tower (Tower 2), therefore destroying both buildings.
